They are all volunteers.

Kristi King prepared care packages; Gina Luplow poured hot coffee; Barbara Thompson talked to soldiers; Kathy Marzolf greeted every soldier who walked in the door at the USO building at McChord Field; Freddie Ellis straightened boxes of cookies.

And then there is Ella Young, a woman who has volunteered to see soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen off for the past 25 years.

Soldiers assigned to Joint Base Lewis-McChord's 62nd Medical Brigade, 864th Engineer Battalion and the Utah National Guard's 934th Field Surgical Team appreciated the work.

"These people are heroes; they deserved to be recognized," said Captain Nick Bell, 62nd Medical Brigade, before boarding a plane for Afghanistan.

"They are great."

God Bless You Guys for making my son 's and all the other soldiers deployment a little easier through your kindness and support. It means more than mere words can express to not only them, but their families as well.
