Temperatures are dropping. Rain is pelting the windows. Time to get off work, grab a quick drink and curl up with a nice, fuzzy dodgeball.

A dodgeball? That's right. A dodgeball.

"Dodgeball is awesome," says Eddie Behringer, co-founder of Comeback Sports. "It's the most social sport we run."

Comeback Sports is one of Tacoma's largest facilitators of adult sports leagues.  From dodgeball to kickball, softball to soccer, Comeback Sports offers energetic individuals the opportunity to participate year round in team sports. Or, as the Comeback Sports website says, participate in "an experience that unifies the most fun aspects of not being at your daily grind."

And unlike some ultra-competitive leagues, one doesn't need to hit like Albert Puljos or kick like Pele to enjoy playing on a Comeback Sports organized team. The experience is more about meeting other people than heavy competition.

"Ninety-percent of our dodgeball players are out there looking to meet people and have a good time," says Behringer. "Our dodgeball is something anybody can do."

All Comeback Sports leagues are coed. The cost for a season is $70 per individual or $425 for team registration. Dodgeball, like most Comeback Sports leagues, starts off with a preseason night at a local bar that sponsor's the league. Then its matches every Wednesday night for six weeks.

"We keep the music rocking in the gym," says Behringer. "Everybody has a good time."

The Comeback Sports dodgeball league usually has about 20 six-to-ten person teams per season. While some teams sign up as complete units, Behringer says many individuals sign up solo. Behringer thinks turning out for a fun-oriented sport like dodgeball is a great way to meet new friends.

"The teams are perfect for those who are single or those looking for a new group to get involved with," says Behringer.

After a night of matches, participants are encouraged to head back to the sponsor bar for some post match mingling. The sponsor bar offers free appetizers and beer specials for Comeback Sports participants. These meetings are a great time to get to know a team better, as well as form relationships outside the gym.

"We really provide an unparalleled social experience," says Behringer.  "There are more opportunities to meet people than just out on the field."

Registration for the summer sports season is upcoming, and can be found at www.comebacksports.com .
