The weather report for this Friday calls for 74 degrees and sunny with a zero percent chance of precipitation. Ah, the wonderful days of a South Sound Indian summer: strolling around town enjoying the coming of autumn - evident in the colorful leaves and passing school busses - yet still savoring the warmth of the sun.

This Friday will be extra wonderful in Olympia, as it's the 41st Arts Walk event. From 5-10 p.m., the core of downtown will be seasoned with the flavor of hundreds of performers and artists. One hundred and one businesses will be participating in the event, to be exact, each with something unique to offer the community.

For example, Precious Metalsmith, on the corner of Capitol Way and Fifth Avenue (whose own hand-crafted jewelry is an art in itself), will display a variety of photography by local artists from Moore-Art Photography. The photos depict employees of popular local businesses doing their thing, the images have been chopped and shopped into a superimposed dance of Olympia's daily grind.

Another photography hotspot will be at The Mark on Columbia St., where Kim Cobain (yes, Kurt's sister) will have her experimental black-and-white images on display.

Besides photography, the event will present art of all kinds; sculpture, canvas works, mixed media, woodworking, pottery and jewelry to name just a few!

And of course music will be a highlight. With more than 40 acts planned for the evening, it will be tough to choose which to enjoy! A couple of gems include Oly Folk Fest at The Loft on Cherry with Mudcat and Blues Folk from 8-9 p.m. followed by Kimya Dawson at 10 p.m.

And for the kiddies, there will be plenty to do. From 5-9 p.m. there will be art activities and face painting sponsored by City of Olympia Parks, Arts and Recreation Department. Also, Olympia's favorite toy store, Wind Up Here, will be hosting a puppet show and displaying, among others, Steamboat Island Co-op Preschool's mixed media youth art.
