Saturday, March 7: Smoke on the Water Chili Cook-Off

Narrows Brewing Company

By Ron Swarner on March 3, 2015

This seems like a fun idea. Narrows Brewing Co. in partnership with Families Unlimited Network will host a Smoke on the Water Chili Cook-Off. Expect eight different varieties of local amateur and professional chefs' homemade chili, and each member of the crowd will have their opportunity to vote for their favorite. Proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to the support of Families Unlimited Network and their food bank. Last year they served 21,000 individuals in Pierce County. Nice. By the way, those left standing at the end of eight rounds of chili will enter into "sudden death," wherein all liquids would be confiscated and contestants would go mano a mano with the hottest chili without the aid of fire extinguishers. They don't call it Smoke on the Water for nothing.

SMOKE ON THE WATER CHILI COOK-OFF, noon to 5 p.m.,  Narrows Brewing Co., 9007 S. 19th St., Tacoma, $15 at www.familiesunlimitednetwork.org/chili, 253.327.1400
