Wednesday, Jan. 21: "King Kong" (1933)

The Grand Cinema

By Volcano Staff on January 12, 2015

Take a break from asphyxiatingly overplotted blockbusters to absorb the good old days, when all you needed was a mysterious island, a couple dinosaurs and one sexually voracious ape. The Grand Cinema is deep in its Classic Film Series, hitting the Triangle District movie house very third Wednesday. This month, they screen the original brainless blockbuster, cobbled together by real-life thrillseekers Merian C. Cooper and Ernest Schoedsack (The Most Dangerous Game) for maximum impact. Cherish the smell-the-panties moment - a bit sliced out of the film that took 40 years to restore. That's right, the original King Kong is coming to Tacoma!

KING KONG, 1:45 and 6:45 p.m., 606 S. Fawcett Ave., Tacoma, $5-$9.50, 253.593.4474
