Friday, Aug. 8: Coven

McCoy's Cavern

By Nikki McCoy on August 7, 2014

Coven. What does that word do for you? Does it evoke images of darkness, figures shrouded by mystery and ritual? What does it smell like? Dank, dark and bloody? What does it sound like? In this case, Coven, the thrash metal band that dominated the late '80s and early '90s in the Pacific Northwest sounds fucking awesome. Take all the technical skill required to pull off fast and tight licks, combine it with satire and you have Coven. Perfect for this #666 issue of Weekly Volcano, Coven plans to rule McCoy's Friday night. After 20 years, they are re-releasing their third album, Boneless Christian. Favorite hits off this album include "Fuckin a Nun" and "Satanic as Hell." Sometimes referred to as Coven 6669, this band demonstrates shock-comedy thrash metal at its finest.

COVEN, w/Iron Kingdom and Reficul, 9 p.m., Friday, Aug 8, McCoy's Cavern, 418 Fourth Ave., Olympia, $3, 360.352.0696
