Tacoma has a knack for the pop-up venue. From the backyards and porches, living rooms and reconfigured storefronts come shows of punk bands, folk singers, garage rock outfits and hip-hop emcees. We make space in our city for the opportunity to share in these experiences; in venues that are more accessible than a Capitol Hill club with a line around the block and a cover charge. Summertime is exceptionally suited for our brand of a house show. We share food and drinks and gather in a backyard to hear a set of songs from an exceptionally gifted musician.

We have this opportunity again Saturday, a chance to hear some of Tacoma's native sons and daughters share their work. Daniel Blue, once hailed as Tacoma's artistic, bohemian voice returns with a rare solo appearance. After leaving the city to pursue a rocky course through the national music scene with his band Motopony, he has reformed the group, creating a delicately beautiful blend of folk and pop. Interwoven rhythms and harmonies with simple melodic lines support a framework of intimate lyrics revealing a blunt and brutal honesty. One of Tacoma's newest songsmiths, Sporty Lee, howls at the moon with a stormy and tempestuous blend of Nick Cave, John Lennon and Muddy Waters. School of the Arts graduate Valerie Warren carefully weaves songs of self-exploration and discovery into beautiful arras of acoustic guitar and rich vocal harmony.

Tickets are $8. For the address to this backyard, visit facebook.com/events/271645249687420 and confirm you're attending. You'll receive a reply Friday. Bring a blanket to sit on, and something to eat or drink to share.

Backyards are for summer in Tacoma.
