Saturday, June 14: Dude York

Bob's Java Jive

By Rev. Adam McKinney on June 12, 2014

Sometimes it's hard to think of how to describe a group, other than by saying that they're a fucking solid rock group. Dude York is so adept at making ridiculously catchy, wiry indie rock that it's enough to make one tongue-tied. The heavy pop of Dude York has remained steady in quality since their formation in 2011. Now that the revolving door of bassists has settled on Claire England (formerly of the Brite Futures, AKA Natalie Portman's Shaved Head) Dude York has settled into a groove that allows them to explore areas beyond the punk and New Wave leanings of their earlier music. On their most recent LP, Dehumanize, Dude York dip their toes into supercharged R&B, leaving everything as muscular and straightforward, but bringing in a welcome swagger.
