Wednesday, June 11: Celebrating American Music

Kenneth J. Minnaert Center Main Stage

By Volcano Staff on June 2, 2014

Far from being measured by military might, technological advancement, or the gross domestic product, United States' patriotism - in a nutshell - is a "love of one's own," a fact that has been proven in song: "America the Beautiful," "My Country ‘Tis of Thee," "God Bless America," Simon and Garfunkel's "America," Merle Haggard's "Okie from Muskogee," Curtis Mayfield's "Power to the People" and, of course, Jimi Hendrix's "Star Spangled Banner." The South Puget Sound Community College Concert Choir and the Puget Sound Community Choir join the Department of Washington American Legion Band for a evening filled with patriotic selections - new and old - under the title, "Celebrating American Music: A Selection of Traditional and New." The concert will include songs by American composers, including folk and hymn arrangements, pieces by modern American composers and Broadway show tunes, as well as movie medleys, big band selections, marches and more.
