Saturday, May 3: Captain Algebra

Le Voyeur

By Nikki McCoy on April 30, 2014

Captain Algebra is fast becoming one of my favorite heavy bands. They have this certain stoner/doom quality that makes me think of Bacchus or Red Fang. There's also this punk rock vibe that makes me think of my younger years, which seems appropriate given the boys rocking in this band are probably not even drinking age. With song titles like "Snapple" and "Hipster Apocalypse," you know there's fun sprinkled into all that serious playing too. Captain Algebra brings tasty licks, deep grooves and powerful jams. Recently, I saw them live: mosh pit filled with head-banging elbow-throwers, and a stage presence from the band that brought the appropriate rock stances and furrowed brows that project depths of talent - talent that's apparent in the moment, but also hidden in layers of yet-to-be-tapped potential. I'm keeping an eye on these guys, and so should you.
