Lemay - America's Car Museum is going cool and groovy with "Vee Dub: Bohemian Beauties," an exhibit it has dubbed as "psychedelic." More than likely this means the classic Volkswagens on display will be painted with designs in bright neon colors. It probably does not mean that you'll be laying on the ground outside the museum trippin' out, looking up into the sky stammering, "Whoooooa, dude! That shooting star looks just like a Beetle! Slug bug!" and hitting your best friend in the arm. ... As of press time there wasn't very much information about this exhibit, so I'll fill the rest of this space with random facts about Volkswagen. Did you know Ferdinand Porsche created the Volkswagen? Yes, that Porsche. The idea for the Volkswagen, or "people's car," came from Adolph Hitler (yes, that Hitler) who wanted the German people to have an automobile that could hold two adults and three children, would go 60 mph, and cost about the same as a small motorcycle. The slogan was, "Five marks a week you must put aside, if you want in your own car to ride." Not exactly "Like a rock," or "Built Ford tough," was it?

"VEE DUB: BOHEMIAN BEAUTIES," through April 5, Lemay - America's Car Museum, 2702 E. D St., Tacoma, $8-$14, 253.779.8490
