Saturday, Nov. 16: Food For Thought

Tacoma Urban League

By Jose Gutierrez Jr., M.Ed. on November 11, 2013

Saturday at 11 a.m. may be early for some of you night owls and late night ridahs recovering from a fun-filled Friday night, but consider waking up a bit earlier than normal for a special occasion that embodies the ideals and founding principles of hip-hop culture and music. Yes, its Hip-Hop History Month and the Tacoma Chapter of The Zulu Nation, aka Z53 Zulu, is celebrating. Peace, Love, Unity, Having Fun and Knowledge are the principles front and center at Z53's Food For Thought event Saturday morning. The organization will collect warm coats and jackets for those in need during this chilly season, as well as offer information about regaining one's right to vote and getting one's record expunged if her or she have gone wayward of our laws. Finally, there will be a screening of Hidden Colors 2, the sequel to the first "controversial" film that examines race from an Afrocentric perspective. Oh yeah, there will be food for everyone - and it's all free!

FOOD FOR THOUGHT, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tacoma Urban League, 2550 Yakima Ave., Tacoma, free, 253.383.2007
