On the surface, Posole bear many of the telltale signs of a surf-rock band, but the San Francisco band folds in elements of mariachi and Latin rhythms. Sometimes, they approach the sort of desert rock of groups like Los Lobos, with horns adorning their cinematic narratives. All the while, the guitars are louder and more aggressive than one would expect when listening to a band that describes itself as "dream pop." The dreamiest Posole gets is on songs like "Trail Of...," which shuffles along like the theme to a spaghetti western, as reverb-y guitars shimmer in the distance. Elsewhere, "Freedom Fighter" finds them at their most dramatic, with its "whoa whoa" refrain and insistently chugging guitars, which build toward a nearly anthemic release before receding back into classic rock noodling.
