Friday, May 31: Lost Lockets

Northern

By Rev. Adam McKinney on May 29, 2013

Kaetlin Kennedy's Lost Lockets project is a mixture of multimedia performance art and darkly alluring experimental folk music. You're never quite sure what you'll experience when you see Lost Lockets. Interpretive dance numbers, sound collages, off-putting costumes and themes, Kennedy solo or surrounded by a cast of characters. What can be determined is that this is a project that's constantly in flux, always striving for new ways of arriving at artistic expression. But all of that would so much pretty window dressing if it weren't for Kennedy's beautiful voice and knack for not only constructing equally haunting original pieces, but also for selecting and interpreting the work of others. A fine example is her drifting cover of "Born in the USA," which puts boldly out in front all of the song's emotions that Ronald Reagan so obtusely missed when he chose it for his campaign song.
