Saturday, June 1: Gaytheist

The New Frontier Lounge

By Rev. Adam McKinney on May 29, 2013

This is once again another opportunity for me to throw this lesson out there: if you're interested in getting write-ups for your band, give them the most kick-ass name you can think of. Thankfully, besides having one of the coolest names this side of DJ Ted Dancin' (totally real), Gaytheist absolutely bring it with their brand of whip-smart, unexpectedly melodic, blistering punk. They're also on the short songs tip - mostly in and out in two minutes or less. While most of their songs have an aggression and drive to them, there is still an unmistakable joy inherent in their music, whether it manifests itself in delightfully silly titles like "60 Easy Payments" or "MANhattan," slyly winking wordplay. Best of all, Gaytheist calls the bluff of novelty gay metal acts like Pink Steel.

GAYTHEIST, w/ Argonaut, 9 p.m., The New Frontier Lounge, 301 E. 25th St., Tacoma, cover TBA, 253.572.4020
