This Memorial Day, the Blue Star Museums program opens again for the summer. Blue Star Museums offers free admission to all active-duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day, May 27, through Labor Day, Sept. 2, 2013.

More than 2,000 museums throughout all 50 states are offering free admission to active duty military personnel and their families through a program called Blue Star Museums. The free admission program is available to any bearer of a Geneva Convention Common Access Card or an identification card, and includes active duty military in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard, and Reserve and up to five immediate family members.

The Tacoma Museum District is participating. Visit Washington State History Museum, Museum of Glass and Tacoma Art Museum to experience the rich culture in our area. Leadership support for the Blue Star Museums program is provided by MetLife Foundation through Blue Star Families. Harbor History Museum in Gig Harbor offers a 10 percent discount on admission for all active military. The Museum of Flight in Seattle offers military discounts year round.

It's an awesome way to enjoy museums when you go on vacation, too. For a complete list of participating museums, go to www.arts.gov/bluestarmuseums and click on the map.
