Through Sept. 25: Lord Franzannian's Royal Olympian Spectacular

Midnight Sun Performance Space

By Christian Carvajal on September 16, 2010

Elizabeth Lord is many things:  bartender, storyteller, gifted actor - and, once a year, Lord Franzannian, the gruff but lovable drag host of Oly's premier vaudeville revue. We don't know what the good Lord's lineup will be this year, but odds are there'll be music, juggling and lovely ladies of all shapes and sizes removing frilly garments for your edification and pleasure. Last year the highlight was a guy who stood various objects on his chin. This becomes far more impressive when you learn one of those objects was a full-size canoe. Proceeds benefit BigShowCity, a non-profit Performing Arts Organization that supports and helps finance burgeoning artists.

PREDICTION: I'll be at the show to review and, hopefully, love it.  This means I will review burlesque performers rather than just publicize them. (You may remember a slight kafuffle on that front earlier this year. I sure do.) Therefore, next Thursday, half the burlesque dancers in town will consider me an arts-supporting mensch, while the others will revive the hateful phrase "creepy uncle."
