Danny Cline R.I.P.

Plus: a reunion and new ep

By Bobble Tiki on August 13, 2009

It’s a new week, which means it’s time for a new installment of Bobble Tiki’s South Sound music notes column. Let’s get rolling…

As you’ve probably picked up on by now, Post Stardom Depression will be getting the band back together for this Saturday’s Music and Art in Wright Park 2009 festival. As a long time fan of PSD’s sexed up, rockified groove, Bobble Tiki couldn’t be happier about the development. A chance to see Tacoma stalwarts like Jeff Angell, Kyong Kim, Brent Saunders and Josh Fant together on stage is a chance not to miss, at least in Bobble Tiki’s humble opinion. South Sound music fans, who appreciate such a chance as much as Bobble Tiki does, should send letters of thanks to Zeke’s Donny Paycheck, who originally approached the band about playing Music and Art in Wright Park 2009.

Speaking of Jeff Angell, PSD’s frontman has been going all out with his new band — The Missionary Position, which recently self released a new album that Bobble Tiki is simply dying to get his Tiki hands on. According to Angell, who Bobble Tiki has on speed-dial, the new Missionary Position disc marks a highpoint for the songwriter. “Lyrically, I just took it as far as I could,” says Angell. “As a writer, hopefully it’s not a peak, but it’s as good as I’ve been.”

Last, but certainly not least, Bobble Tiki and the entire Weekly Volcano family would like to send our thoughts and condolences out to the family and friends of Danny Cline, of which there are many in this town of ours. Cline, or D-Child as he was known in the local hip-hop act Nasty Left, lost his battle with cancer on Aug. 4. Rarely has there been a sadder day in Tacoma music. The lives and ears that D-Child touched and inspired are too many to count, in Tacoma and beyond. In times like these we can only take solace in the fact that Cline will never be forgotten.
