Live band auditions at Jive

Plus: Bon Von Wheelie: Queen of the Big Boss Beat

By Bobble Tiki on July 16, 2009

It’s a new week, which means it’s time for a new edition of Bobble Tiki’s South Sound music notes column. Let’s get rolling. …

Bobble Tiki loves a creative idea. Like that time Bobble Tiki came to the epiphany that boxed wine can be concealed in an AM/PM sports bottle, sometimes truly creative ideas spew from unlikely sources. Now, that’s not to say Bobble Tiki didn’t expect creative ideas out of Tacoma’s Freedom Record’s — because, let’s be honest, they’re probably way more cutting edge than Bobble Tiki — but it is to say that Bobble Tiki never imagined an event like the one Freedom Records has lined up for Wednesday, July 22 at Bob’s Java Jive.

The idea is simple but brilliant: musicians often need to find bands, and bands often need to find musicians — but making these connections is usually way too difficult. Knowing this, Freedom Records is holding live and open auditions for all musicians interested in joining a band — right there at the Jive. Starting at 9 p.m., the evening will kick off with Visibility 00 holding auditions for a singer. Additional bands will follow, and they’ll all be looking to fill a musical hole. Here’s a little more info from a press release:

“Freedom Records is proud to present “Lost and Found,” a show that aims to match up bands with musicians. Hosted by Bob’s Java Jive, our goal is to help streamline the audition process and generate a general feeling of camaraderie that sometimes feels lost amongst Tacoma musicians these days. There will be a sign-up sheet for those who want to show off their talents. …”

Pretty cool, no?

Lastly, before Bobble Tiki blows this Popsicle stand, he’d like to draw your attention to a new song by Guns & Rossetti — playing the New Frontier in Tacoma this Friday, July 17 with The Dirty Birds. It’s called “Bon Von Wheelie: Queen of the Big Boss Beat” — and needless to say, it hits close to home for those of us here in Tacoma, and kicks major ass.

Check it out in person Friday at the New Frontier.
