Women in Prison Night

Tacoma Cult Film Club is at it again

By Paul Schrag on May 7, 2009

You’d be surprised by the kinds ghastly trials faced by heroin addicts, political revolutionaries, man killers, thieves, dope pushers and cop killers. Especially the girl kind. Especially the girl kind that get caught and thrown in prison to be lorded over by a sadistic warden with a huge rack and a body like the Ultimate Warrior. OK, now that you’re interested, head down to the Acme Grub Cage to immerse yourself in the second official Tacoma Cult Movie Club night this Monday, May 11, beginning at 7 p.m. Hosted by super trio Colin Sannes, Tobin Ropes and Mary K. Johnson, Women in Prison Night promises to be an unparalleled experience.

Headlining film offerings is 1971 classic The Big Doll House, starring the ultimate femme fatale, Pam Grier, as the aptly-named Grear, who battles to escape a nameless prison with her heroin-addict girlfriend. Of course, there’s plenty of fem-dom-submission, big guns, sex, girl fights and requisite torture by a sadistic prison warden. Add a couple more films, a Batman serial screening, a string of awesome B-flick trailers, good beer, free popcorn, hot dogs, a raffle and free manatee rides, and you’ve got a Monday to remember.
