Canadian-turned Portlander Josh Martinez and Sleep of Old Dominion pay another valuable visit to the 25360 as they rock the release party for their highly anticipated collabo album, Swine Country at The China Clipper Friday, April 24 during Olympia Arts Walk.

The eccentric and lauded MCs came together as Chicharones to release the project. Martinez, known for his completely unique style and off-the-wall stage persona, teams up with Sleep, one of the many members of the Northwest heavyweight crew, Old Dominion. Holding down the rest of the show are no slouches on the microphone. The Language Arts Crew (Los Angeles) will fill the bill with the workman-like Junkyard Gang (Olympia) and The Elements (Seattle) with DJ Deadbeat to make sure your cup runneth over with talent. Check it out at 402 Fourth Ave. E. around 8 p.m.

The Most Valuables: Ghostface Killah’s Supremem Clientele

When you purchase a product … if you consider yourself an intelligent consumer — you want what you paid for. Right? Right! When you get your hands on Ghostface Killah’s 1998 classic, Supreme Clientele you have in your possession something that money cannot buy! The value of this new classic seeps into the soul of Hip-Hop connoisseurs and aficionados.

Ghostface, aka Iron Man aka Tony Starks, opens the album with a fitting intro — revealing his affinity for the comic book hero, Iron Man. Quickly the album takes a sharp incline with the monstrosity of lyrics and production in “Nutmeg.” Here he and his brother-in-arms, The RZA perform lyrical mass murder that sets the tone for a nonstop adventure in lyricism, storytelling and triumph. Other tracks like “Apollo Kids,” “Cherchez Le Ghost” and “Child’s Play” demonstrate the diversity of imagination, delivery and capability of arguably the best solo artist of The Wu-Tang Clan. Along with his brothers, Raekwon, Method Man and Ol’ Dirty Bastard, he is one of the most popular of the Clan, but the sheer number and quality of GFK’s solo albums is unmatched by any of The Wu-Tang family … Ghostface’s career is a demonstration of efficiency and Supreme Clientele is a testament to excellence. Other key tracks are “Saturday Nite,” “Malcolm” and the incomparable anthem for any winner, graduate, hustler or generally successful person, “We Made It”… It is in itself “anthemic.”
