Random acts: Two Car Garage out soon; Sweet Water coming back

While Bobble Tiki has spent plenty of column space over the years lamenting about how little he shares in common with today’s youth — there is one thing Bobble Tiki and the kids both possess. Bobble Tiki and the MySpace, YouTube, text message generation both have very short attention spans.

It’s true. While Bobble Tiki may not understand the coddled and medicated kids of today — acne ridden punks that will (scary as it may be) someday run the world — Bobble Tiki does share their affinity for randomly jumping from topic to topic and dividing his undying attention into 45 second portions.

It’s that quality that helped bore this week’s column.

You see, there are two musical morsels of interest this week that Bobble Tiki would like to take the time to delve into. It may seem strange, since it’s not usually Bobble Tiki’s MO, but the older readers out there having a difficult time with the adjustment need only steal a couple of Ritalin pills from the nearest teenager.

The first item of interest this week for Bobble Tiki: Two Car Garage — the new joint CD by legendary Tacoma bands the Ventures and the Wailers, slated to be unveiled in the coming days or weeks by locally run Blue Horizon Records.

According to Leonard Haggarty of Blue Horizon Records, the album has been cut and is all but ready to go. It’s scheduled to be sold through Twocargaragemusic.com, which was rumored to be up and running by Jan 18, but Haggarty now says that may be a little early. He expects to have the Web site running in anywhere from 10 to 14 days, and once it is, the official release of Two Car Garage will follow shortly thereafter.

According to Haggarty, the album will include seven songs by the Ventures, seven songs by the Wailers and four songs featuring members of both groups.

“It’s got some groundbreaking stuff,” says Haggarty of Two Car Garage. “It’s not just a rehash.”

Haggarty also says the Ventures and Wailers are currently trying to schedule a few local performances to coincide with the release of Two Car Garage — perhaps even one in Tacoma — and fans can look for such performances in March.

The second item of interest to Bobble Tiki this week is Sweet Water.

As you may recall,  Seattle band Sweet Water returned to the scene in 2007 after a long hiatus — hitting Hell’s Kitchen in June of that year with much success. Bobble Tiki was there, and it was one hell of a sexy and energetic show.

Well, on Jan. 20 Sweet Water is set to release their fourth full-length record, Clear the Tarmac, and Bobble Tiki just learned the band will be returning to Hell’s Kitchen on March 14 to celebrate.

On the subject of Clear the Tarmac, bassist Cole Peterson had this to offer in a press release:

“The rock is one-hundred percent bulletproof. Any track could be a single. I most often describe the music as what it would sound like if Paul McCartney met Jimmy Page at Ron Wood’s house with the Misfits playing in the background and then they all decided to write some songs.”

So nice.

As usual, Bobble Tiki doesn’t care what you do this week because he doesn’t even know you. Unless you can tell Bobble Tiki who finally painted over the “Tacoma’s bailout plan” tag on the Money Mart near Jason Lee, then he’s pretty sure he doesn’t want to meet you. Whoever that person is, they suck and have no sense of humor. Check out this Web site for all your South Sound Internet needs, and consider that close enough. If you got any closer to Bobble Tiki you could see the emptiness in his soul.
