F.A.T. fashion show

What I will blow my paycheck on this week

Ondia Shapiro, the beauty behind The Shoe Show on Sixth Avenue, took a break from her crazy busy shoe shop to give us the lowdown on dressing up for this weekend’s Fashion Association of Tacoma (F.A.T.) fashion show during the Tacoma Winterfest at the Foss Waterway Seaport. Models will show off different looks for women and men — all with a winter style themes — by designers Daniel Blue, Adam Jackson, Sweet Revenge and others while walking a catwalk built specifically for this event.

The fashion show will be held Saturday Dec. 13, around 8 p.m. — right after the lighted boat parade and decorated boat competition award ceremony.

Hair and makeup are being handled by Embellish and Steven Christen Salon with clothes and accessories from The Shoe Show, urbanXchange, Tiki Lounge, Envy, Sonja, and Julia Ellen.

“It’s been especially great to work with Danica Nikolich,” explains Shapiro. “She and her mother, Marcia, have done all the set decorating for the fashion show. It’s awesome.”

An entire fashion town will spring up at Winterfest.

“Pretty cool about this one — Fashion Town is approximately 30 booths all having to do with fashion in one way or another: hair, clothes, nails, jewelry, shoes, and more. And we’ll have a F.A.T. lounge with information on all the fashions and everyone involved so you can talk and then shop, shop, shop,” says Shapiro.

Angela Jossy, festival director for Winterfest, had the idea of incorporating local fashion designer and boutiques to expound on the typical vendor booth-based festival.

“I like fashion even if my budget doesn’t always allow me to show it,” says Jossy. “I wanted this show to feature current fashion trends and show people how to wear them without going to chain or department stores.”

“I really believe that when people work together, miraculous things can happen,” Jossy adds.

We’re right there with you, Angela, and we’ll be at the (hopefully) first annual Tacoma Winterfest to embrace our large community of musicians, artists, designers and merrymakers with pocketbook in hand.
