Seattle Symphony

FRIDAY, NOV. 7: Tacoma Philharmonic presents the Seattle Symphony in Concert. Frankly, I’d rather not drive to Seattle if I can help it. So if I have a chance to hear the Seattle Symphony performing in Tacoma, I’ll grab it. This one is a mostly Mozart concert with a symphony by Vaughn Williams added. Another bonus is that the Symphony will be conducted by guest John Fiore. I wish I could afford a box seat.

[Pantages Theater, 7:30 p.m., $32.50-$62.50, 901 Broadway, Tacoma, 253.591.5894]

Hot Lunch

Friday, Nov. 7: Sick of eating your bologna sandwich in your cubicle every day? Then break out! The Museum of Glass will gladly entertain you for your 60-minute lunch break (and where do you work?) during its Hot Lunch glass demonstrations.  Every Friday, audience members are encouraged to try the museum’s box lunch from Gallucci’s Glass Café and eat in the Hot Shop, where special guest glass artists do their thing. To order your lunch, contact the Cafe at 253.474.7885 or by e-mail by 3 p.m. Wednesday prior to your visit. This Friday, try a little glass action with your Snack Pack Pudding.

[Museum of Glass, Friday, Nov. 7, noon to 1 p.m., $8-$16, 1801 Dock St., downtown Tacoma, 253.396.1768]

Rock, Paper, Scissors

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 12: Quests to make oneself different too frequently end in tragic artistic debacles. Gods of fortune do not often smile on those who feel the simultaneous urge to be creative and unique. Witness the travesty that is your Tollefson Plaza. Once again, I digress. Point is, when something is different and good, well, all your excuses for sitting at home with Seinfeld reruns sort of sound really pathetic. Check out the Rock, Paper, Scissors: 3rd Annual Book Arts Exhibition and Auction at King’s Books. There will be food to nibble on, wine and cider to pound and art to bid on. Money raised goes toward buying books for Tacoma’s Public School libraries. Now this is how it should be.

[King’s Books, 5 p.m. preview, 6 p.m. auction, no cover, 218 St. Helens Ave., Tacoma, 253.272.8801]
