Bloom

What I blew my paycheck on this week.

The Gig Harbor boutique Bloom had residence on Harborview Drive for three years prior to moving to Uptown Center in April. In December, Bloom owners Mark Crowley and Maria Miskoski will celebrate the store’s four-year anniversary.

“We based the whole design of the store around our lotus lights,” explains Miskoski. “We got to do exactly what we wanted.”

They’ve created an organic, unobtrusive atmosphere. Previously known for a massive designer jean selection, the two have expanded their offerings to include a variety of styles of coats, affordable handbags, hats, comfy dresses, slacks, long and short belted sweaters, and more.

What’s hot?

  • The fun new Boyfriend jean by Red Engine ($168) is quite relaxed and roomy — just like if you borrowed your boyfriend’s jeans and rolled up the pant legs — and Swarovski crystal adorned True Religion jeans.

  • Bloom’s is the only place in the area besides Nordstrom that carries Juicy Couture.

  • They sell cashmere sweaters by Vince. Bloom has these year-round —  though in cotton/cashmere blends for warmer months.

  • Theme offers dressy, sexy work clothes that easily transition to evening wear with added accessories and a shoe and handbag change.

  • The surf/skate-wear company Quiksilver has hired a new designer and broadened its design focus to appeal to women over 25, creating swinging sweaters, skinny jeans (only $88), super flares, structured vests, and silky tanks ($30 to $100).

  • Jewelry designer Jill MacNeil sells her mineral, crystal and leather-based jewelry line Mineral Creek Jewelry exclusively at Bloom.

The knowledge the couple has obviously gained in the boutique business since opening Bloom is evident in their confident kindness and savvy buying ability.

“We try to offer unique items, so we buy in smaller numbers,” confides Crowley. “That let’s us have more variety.”

He and Miskoski host a monthly event to showcase new arrivals, offer specials and discounts, and they typically give gift bags or gifts with purchase to those who attend.
