Carmen stays cool

Summertime in the city

As evidenced by the fact that I currently have full freckles, raccoon eyes from my blue-blocker shades, and sun-kissed skin, I’m so sincerely enjoying all of this sunny weather.

The primary downfall to it all is that I have to work so much during the week when the sun is shining so brightly.

But then again, I’d probably be in a whirlwind of trouble if left to my own devices during all of these fair weather days.

Another downfall to the hot days is that the bedrooms in my home turn into ovens, but this year, I decided to do something about that, especially because I’m absolutely LOVING living with my wonderful roommate, Bianca.

Bianca’s got the entire upstairs, and it roasts like the fires of hell up there when we get to 75 degrees or above.

So I decided to buy two window air conditioners for her room and mine, and that’s one of the best decisions that I’ve ever made.

Lucky for us, Flarry installed them just in time for this latest spate of warm weather, and both Bianca and I are in absolute heaven as a result.

That’s making this summer even more enjoyable. Thank you, Flarry!!!

What’s just as great as staying cool was catching the Pioneers: West and Blanco Bronco rock show at the Top of Tacoma last Thursday. Everyone there was impressed with Luke Larsen’s (he’s a bartender at the Top) Pioneers: West band, and I’m so proud of the Blanco Bronco sticker that’s now on the rear window of my car.

The party continued Friday as K-Love, Paige, Natasha and I headed to Masa for their salsa and reggaeton night. None of us could take our eyes away from the dance floor as we watched salsa experts and idiots twirling and flailing around. Masa became packed in no time flat, and it’s without a doubt a place to be and be seen on the weekends.

The highlight from the weekend was Art on the Ave, which proved to be fun for all even though so many of the Washingtonians turned into lobsters on that hot, hot day.

Natasha and I started the event by saying hello to the Frenchman, then we headed to The Red Hot where we found Bandito Betty and Steph DeRosa. After, we met up with Little Lizzle and busted over to Tam Tam’s no-host party where people were allowed to congregate, eat and drink whether Tammi was there or not.

After getting our fill there, we ran around and checked out the booths, wears, art, organizations and the community street mural that’s now gracing the intersection of Pine Street and Sixth Avenue.

But the real reason we attended Art on the Ave was to catch Nasty Left. This group is pure hip-hop and as always, they were a crowd pleaser with their fun lyrics, on-stage antics, and Katie’s dreamy and sultry voice that compels you to slow down.

Our Art on the Ave function ended with mojitos at Asado, and then quality time at Jazzbones with Howe, Southern Charmer Bill, Sundawg and Bud Rob (who was at dirtbag red alert status, which was fucking hilarious).

Lately, it seems like any time on Sixth Avenue is a great time.

Tis the season.
