Tacoma benders

I crave my Taco Time trifecta.

My friends love to make fun of me about being a food snob based on all of the high-end restaurants that I frequent, but I have this one major obsession that I pretty much keep to myself.

I love, LOVE tacos.

Lately I’ve been talking about how all bars should serve free tacos all of the time. People always laugh at me when I say that, but I’m actually quite serious. I recognize that there are taco nights all over our fair city, but sometimes I just can’t wait for the bars to open so I can sink my teeth into that crispy bliss.

One of the establishments that I sneak into quite frequently to get ‘em is the Taco Time on Sixth Avenue.

After a long night of gallivanting around this city on the weekends and after I’ve risen from my cozy bed around 11 a.m. (mmmm, sleep!), one of my favorite things to do is to throw on my comfortable sweats and take a casual drive down Sixth Avenue (I take the long way there every time).

I love admiring this avenue and all of the development that’s occurred there over the past several years, and the ultimate treat at the end of the journey is arriving at my favorite quick service Mexican joint: Taco Time.

The wonderful worker bees at this location know that I’m like Rain Man when it comes to my ordering habits. I’ve gotten the same thing at Taco Time for all of my adult life:

A crisp beef taco with ranch on the inside and no tomatoes (tomatoes are death), a crisp bean burrito, a regular mexi fry and a Coke.

I’m always sure to grab a couple of blasts of the hot sauce for dipping and one of the plastic forks for scooping up any of the tasty remains of my always-delicious and fresh taco.

I huddle in one of the booths in the corner where no one can see me, reading the newspaper just to make the time go by faster, with my trusty number at the edge of the table. As soon as my order arrives, all of the day’s news leaves my brain, and I dig into my Taco Time trifecta.

As far as I’m concerned, it really doesn’t get any more perfect that that, which is why it’s this week’s Scene of the Crime.

But don’t pay attention to my Rain Man tendencies because Taco Time has so much more to offer.

People love the vegetables that were chopped by hand, the beans that were cooked in the morning and the tortillas delivered straight from a local maker.

They also love Taco Time’s healthier options like the chicken soft taco light, the veggie soft taco, the soft bean burrito, the Southwest chop salad and the white chicken chili cup.

I can’t write anymore about this because I’m salivating on my keyboard. I’m on my way to Taco Time now.
