Sean Costello

Blues guitarist appears at Jazzbones this week

By Bobble Tiki on February 14, 2008

Sean Costello is a blues guitar player, and if there’s one thing Bobble Tiki loves, it’s blues guitar.

Resonating from Atlanta, Costello — who is now closing in on 30 — has been a highly regarded bluesman since his high school days. He was a mere teenager when he released his debut album, Call the Cops, as well as when he aided Susan Tedeschi’s gold album, Just Won’t Burn, with his signature blues licks.

He’s been on the move ever since.

Costello may be young, but he’s also proven. In Costello’s 10-plus year career, the blossoming blues guitarist has spent more time touring than most seasoned blues vets, and he’s earned the acclaim and accolades to show his success is no fluke. The blues community knows Costello and has accepted him with open arms. Because a bluesman is what Costello was born to be.

Saturday, Feb. 16, Costello will play Jazzbones in Tacoma. Those who need proof that the blues are alive and well need look no farther.

Three days later, on Feb. 19, Costello (no relation to Elvis) will release his sixth full length record — We Can Get Together — on West Coast based blues label Delta Groove Production. Known for their work with the likes of Jason Ricci and Ana Popovic, the label is a fitting home for Costello’s brand of Les Paul pyrotechnics.

Check out Costello’s show at Jazzbones on Saturday, then if you like what you hear, pick up his latest record the following Tuesday. Costello may be young, but he epitomizes the blues. As music fans, what more could we ask for?
