Presidential party

Three day weekends should be the norm.

There are few things in life that make me happier than a three-day weekend. As a matter of fact, I think we should work only Tuesday through Friday every week. Since I probably won’t get my way with that anytime soon, here’s how I chose to pack this President’s Day weekend that I felt so fortunate to have.

Hot Guy Friday

At 4:45 p.m. Friday, K-Love and I split from the workplace and bolted to Asado as fast as our cars would take us. I hadn’t eaten very much that day, so my chops were ready and raring. Awesome Andi created my order for me (I’d never sway from her recommendations) and I got the chicken skewers, the vegetarian empanadas, a side of the roasted corn, and I even got the amazing banana dessert. The entire experience was perfection as always. What made it even better was the fact that it felt like we were surrounded by good looking guys. My favorite was this sandy blonde sitting on the other side of the bar from us and these three dashing brunette guys to my right. Whew! Although I am Tacoma’s biggest flirt, the liquid courage hadn’t hit me yet and I didn’t get to talk with any of them. Oh well.

K-Love took off to meet her hubby, and I beat feet to meet up with Syd Vicious at The Red Hot. There we had much to celebrate. Syd just got a new job, and we ran into a certain fellow who let me know that I’ve won an award for all of the tireless work I do at my day job. Glasses were raised in delight.

If you still haven’t been to The Red Hot, get your ass in there. It’s freaking awesome.

Rockabilly Saturday

Saturday, roommate Ian took me, Rosie, McGraw and Gunnarson to the Owl N Thistle in Seattle (Ian works there) for the Dusty 45s show. Natasha is a huge fan of both the Owl and the Dusty 45s, and she met up with us after spending a busy day in the 206. Also in attendance were my buddies Colin, Marissa and Vanessa. The Owl was PACKED with all sorts of folks — young and old. The bar was standing room only filled with people just like me who were shaking their shoulders to the flawless rockabilly treats. I can’t wait to see the Dusty 45s again, especially because they’ll be playing at Jazzbones March 21. Yea!

Thank gawd for presidents

I was so stoked that I didn’t have to work on Monday, which meant that I could get in another late-night evening of fun. I met up with Maranatha and Jill at Doyle’s Public House for St. Practice Day. The fun contemporary Celtic band Ockham’s Razor was playing. Doyle’s was busting at the seams with people, including ones I really enjoy like Bett, The Husky, Danny, Coach Steve, that letch Brad Allen, Pappi Swarner and Kake.

I split from Doyle’s to escape the crowd and ended the night at the Top of Tacoma with the likes of Tall Troy, Kelly and Hammer.

My hat goes off to our nation’s leaders in celebration of their work and this three day weekend, rancho bee bop.
