The Most Awesome Protagonist

Awesome has never been so awesome

There’s not much room on Le Voyeur’s stage. Anyone who’s been to the Olympia club knows that. For this reason, and many others, when the one man band known as The Most Awesome Protagonist hits Le Voyeur this Sunday, Jan. 13, it’ll be a perfect fit.

The Most Awesome Protagonist is Mikey O’Connor, a San Francisco based musician with a talent for nearly anything that makes noise. On The Most Awesome Protagonist’s latest release, Drunken Children Tell the Ugliest Lies, which hit the Internet (free for download at www.myspace.com/ themostawesomeprotagonist) in October of ’07, O’Connor plays all the instruments — bass to guitar to drums and everything in between.  He also recorded it all in his San Francisco home and claims the entire endeavor took him under a week. The Most Awesome Protagonist sounds as if Ted Leo got all sloppy on uppers, and maybe didn’t sleep for a week or two — in a good way. O’Connor’s energy, mixed with his love of everything from Elliott Smith to Stevie Wonder, spliced with his affinity for mid ’90s alterna-pop, makes for some pretty entertaining tunes.

“I had just gotten fired from my job and was broke and in a pretty bad spot so I just started hitting record and playing. Before I knew it I had the entire record finished,” says O’Connor in a press release regarding the record.

The Most Awesome Protagonist will play Le Voyeur in Olympia Sunday along with Buffalo Voice and Pwrfl Power. Le Voyeur continues to make the most interesting bookings in town, and this show only proves it. The Most Awesome Protagonist is, well, most awesome, and the rest of the bill aint bad either.
