Marcia's Silver Spoon Cafe

Feed your belly and your head through myspace

Sometimes people consider me the ultimate Tacoma insider when it comes to nightlife, but one of the secrets to my success is simple.

Sure, I’ve developed lasting relationships with so many of the wonderful restaurant and bar owners in this region because I really admire what they do, and I genuinely want them to succeed.

However, one of the easiest things I do, which you can do too, is I befriend and track the words of these owners and employees through MySpace.

Of course, they know that I write about the nightlife and the Scene of the Crime, but I know for a fact that they’d love to have you as a friend, too.

This is on the top of my mind right now because I just discovered a Tacoma establishment via MySpace that I had zero knowledge of, and now that I know who and where they are, I’m going to head there ASAP (that’s some powerful and cheap marketing!):

Marcia’s Silver Spoon Café.

Through their MySpace page, I learned the following:

“The Silver Spoon was first opened in 1988 by Betty Murdock, who purchased the cafe when it became available next door to the Lucky Silver Tavern, which had already been in the family for decades. She turned the cooking and management over to her daughter, Marcia Crelling, who eventually took over ownership in January 1995. She adjusted the name to Marcia’s Silver Spoon Cafe, and from there everything has just gotten better.

“We have fantastic customers, vendors, and employees, and the breakfast is the best you will ever have! We also donate to several local causes, including Dining Out For Life for the Pierce County AIDS Foundation, Friends of the Holidays, South End Boys and Girls Club, and others. The Cafe is a family run business, and the people who work for us have pretty much been adopted into it.”

Even better, Marcia’s is located on one of my favorite streets in Tacoma at 2601 South Tacoma Way.

That sounds like my kind of place!

If you’re a business owner, I can’t encourage you enough to give MySpace a try if you haven’t already. This tool is an incredibly inexpensive way to illustrate the momentum of your business and develop an even stronger following.

And for those of you readers who are on MySpace, in addition to reading my column to discover my personal picks, here’s a list of establishments that I’ve found on MySpace so you can develop relationships with them on your own: Puget Sound Pizza, The Rosewood Café, Tempest, Monsoon Room, Cans, Lady Lucks Cowgirl Up, The Parkway, The Top of Tacoma Bar and Café, Hell’s Kitchen, Doyle’s Public House, The Red Hot, The Swiss, O’Mally’s, Chopstix, The Fabulous Firwood, The Hob Nob, The Varsity Grill, Cheers West, The Acme, Magoo’s and Stadium Bistro.
