Johanna Gardener brings music to new lounge in the Proctor District

By Jennifer Johnson on January 31, 2008

We at the Weekly Volcano were pleased to get the word about Music in the Lounge at Proctor District’s La Fondita from bar manager Johanna Gardner. Not only does the ‘Dita have some of the tastiest Mexican food in town, but the owners and staff are so pleasant and genuinely happy you chose them for dining that we added them to our Christmas card list.

La Fondita has undergone a swanky facelift and renovation completed May ’07, adding a groovy mellow lounge area in the space adjacent to the existing restaurant. Gardner, one of the organizers of Urban Art Festival, recognized the lounge’s potential and has put together a sweet night of DJs spinning world beat, reggae, jazzy house and Latin music the third Friday of every month at 10 p.m. The kitchen stays open late offering quesadillas, nachos and homemade guacamole and salsa. Red walls, a beautiful bar and shiny bottles of exotic liquor sweeten the deal. Look for rotating DJs like lovely DJ LuLu Spice, gorgeous Mr. Clean and funky PY.

Gardner further leads us on with promises of live music on Saturdays in the months to come.
