Do Something healthy

"Biggest Loser" trainer Jillian Michaels speaks at Tacoma Convention Center

By Jennifer Johnson on January 17, 2008

This year’s 9th annual Do Something Healthy event enters the Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center Jan. 24 with special celebrity guest speaker Jillian Michaels, the uber tough trainer from NBC’s TV show “The Biggest Loser.” Michaels’ style of training focuses on achieving a maintainable weight through healthy lifestyle changes, which is also this year’s health fair and event theme.

As a role model for today’s women, the fitness guru exudes confidence and an “anyone can do it” attitude. Positive motivation and knowledge are powerful tools for anyone wanting to lose weight or simply adjust their eating habits to those that are more nutritionally sound. After listening to Michaels speak, event attendees will hopefully leave embracing the fact that every person loses weight differently and has different nutritional and physical activity needs and capabilities, as well as seeing exercise as something fun.

Hosted by emcee John Curley, from KING 5 “Evening Magazine,” the event consists of a health fair prior to Michaels’ two-hour speaking presentation beginning at 7 p.m. with health screenings, question-and-answer sessions with Multicare dieticians and certified YMCA personal trainers with information on programs the Tacoma YMCA may have that fit your needs.

Make this the year you get the most out of your gym membership.
