Friday, Oct. 26 / 34th and McKinley, Tacoma

When a new place opens (and especially a place that’s owned by a much loved community friend), hordes show up. Friday, Oct. 26 was opening night at Top of Tacoma Bar. Co-owner Jaime Kay Newton shared with us that she’s been experiencing a suspended state of excitement and “butterfly stomach” during the construction phase. She’s relieved to be open and back to doing what she knows best — tending bar. The original 1943 back bar saw updated additions of co-owner Jason J. Jones’ glass Playskool people cookie jars along the bar’s top shelf. The long row of bar stools was taken quickly and a full-fledged party ensued. Pool table, pinball, flat screens, bangin’ jukebox and awesome bar staff put Tacoma’s newest watering hole at the top of our list.
