Tale of TALE

Freighthouse Square hosts the Tacoma Area Literary Enthusiasts’ first annual celebration, Tacoma Word

By Jennifer Johnson on November 1, 2007

What’s in a word, a story, a song? Language can either be a barrier or a bridge.

It can also be the avenue that connects people. Freighthouse Square hosts the Tacoma Area Literary Enthusiasts’ first annual celebration, Tacoma Word! Saturday, Nov. 3.

TALE’s aim is to highlight the literary arts here in Tacoma and surrounding area. Under the theme “Northwest Perspectives in Literary Art” talented writers from the Northwest region will present their take on what living in the Puget Sound and beyond means to them through literary works and performance pieces inspired by their experiences as Northwesterners.

Arrive at Freighthouse Square at 10 a.m. and get set for a full day of emersion into poetry readings, writer workshops by Terri Dunevant (Write Your Book Now!) and others, more than 20 local literary participants, small press, literary journals and an open mic.

It’s a free-for-all for those that love books, the pen, the poem, the typewriter, the pencil, the PC. Get advice on your writing at the Literary Open House between sweet treats for your ears of stories set to live music by singer-songwriter Kristin Connell, Matt Fortin, and The Little Brothers.

Our own Alec Clayton will be there, too.  Check out why on page 7.
