The Lobster Shop Bar

This happening place isn’t just for blue hairs

Now that I’m on the brink of my 32nd year on this planet, my personal nightlife priorities have changed.

Long gone are the days when I seek out a packed bar or club teaming with all kinds of human meat, exposing as much skin as possible, a sweaty dance floor, and enough beer chugging and shots to knock the average non-drinker flat on his ass.

Now that I’m getting older, my taste in nightlife has changed to the point where I generally prefer an early evening, a sophisticated fine-dining Friday night meal with delicious cocktails, dessert that makes me giggle, and exceptional service in an exquisite environment.

One of my favorite places to find all of that is the Lobster Shop.

My foodie family and I have been frequenting the Lobster Shop since the 1980s, and the memories we made there will always have a special place in my heart.

When you zip forward to today, you’ll find me there relaxing after a rigid week at work, with any of their amazing mojitos, and one of Tacoma’s sweetest and most talented bartenders, Bob Jones.

After all of these years of being served at the restaurant, I can honestly say that I’ve never had a bad experience, and you really can’t go wrong with anything you order on the menu. I have dreams about their blue cheese salad, any one of their steaks, and the Olympic Mountain banana split.

I know that many of you need to spend your money on so many of life’s competing needs, so I want to be sure you’re aware of the Lobster Shop’s twilight menu. Early dinners Sunday through Friday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. go for just $16.99 and include a choice of appetizer, chowder or salad, entree and dessert. Also, if you check out their Web site, www.lobstershop.com, you can print out a coupon for a free appetizer with the purchase of two entrees (not valid on Fridays, Saturdays or with the twilight menu).

I’d also like to change a perception out there that you might have about the Lobster Shop. You might assume that it is nothing more than a blue hair hangout with a view, but I don’t agree with that idea.

I see all kinds of people there (taking in the beautiful view), and for all of you hipsters, a couple of years ago the Lobster Shop did a great remodel job on their bar. They added more space, cool booths, an inviting ambiance, and their marble bar is just as gorgeous as ever. That’s all waiting for you and your friends.

As for me, the relaxed 30-something, I plan on enjoying that restaurant until my black hair turns blue, and I think that you should too.
