In a battle of great band names, the Bug Nasties and Fungus Riot will play Le Voyeur Friday, Oct. 12. Fungus Riot won’t have far to go. The band, which you may or may not know for their work as the house band at Rang Dong on Olympia’s Westside, is made up of punk, metal loving dudes who met at The Evergreen State College.



The Bug Nasties, on a slightly different spectrum, will head down from Seattle for the show at Le Voyeur Saturday, and instead of the slower, metal and classic rock-influenced riffs being sported by Fungus Riot, the Bug Nasties will turn the fuzz up to eleven and blast your ass garage-rock style.



Despite the obvious differences between the two bands, the similarities will be overwhelming. Rock will be the binding theme, and based on that alone this show will be one of the best the week has to offer. The Bug Nasties lean toward Austin Powers’ fashion, mod sounds of the ’60s, and extreme R&B. Fungus Riot, on the other hand, list bands like NOFX, Rancid, and Iron Maiden as their influences, and aren’t afraid to go a little epic on your ass. On paper they seem like complete opposites, but this writer’s prediction is it won’t matter. The two bands share a love of rock and roll ideals, and that’s almost always enough for an entertaining show.
