Christian rock that doesn’t bite is how the Brian Dixen Band describes itself. They crank Christian rock that doesn’t scream church service as much as it just croons pop/rock hooks and dynamic crescendos. In preparation for their appearance Saturday at the new Club Corridor in Tacoma, the Weekly Volcano sat down for a chat with David Ramirez, drummer for the Brian Dixen Band.

 

WEEKLY VOLCANO: How did you guys find each other?

DAVID RAMIREZ: We all were friends, and Brian used to do a solo music thing that caught the attention of Centricity Records. So they asked him to get something together so we all played together for a while and ended up getting signed with 717Records, a subsidiary to Centricity. Since then we became glued together.

VOLCANO: What other bands are you often compared with?

RAMIREZ: Our show has been compared to Mute Math (no pressure or anything) and our sound compared to Muse with a hint of Coldplay. We used to be an acoustic band so it’s funny to see old friends come out and expect to hear our old Dave Mathews sound. It amazing to be compared to all those bands. They’re all great.

VOLCANO: Who inspires you?

RAMIREZ: That kid who LOVES music but doesn’t have any money so they search through their car and room for loose change just to get eight bucks to go see a local band play a show.

VOLCANO: What can people expect to see at your performance?

RAMIREZ: There’s a lot of sweat and energy being put out. They’ll probably see a crowd jumping around, a drum solo, and ... well ... I can’t give away our whole show.

VOLCANO: Is there anything else you’d like people to know about you and/or your music?
