In the early ‘70s, a Japanese musician by the name of Daisuke Inoue invented the first ever Karaoke machine. The name Karaoke comes from a combination of the word Kara-meaning empty and Okesutora- meaning orchestra. However, even Daisuke’s Sadist ass couldn’t have fathomed what happens every Monday night at Jazzbones. The ringing backup music has been replaced with a real band; and the cheesy video is gone, because you are the show now, baby. You sing on the stage with a live band before a live, dancing audience — talent or not!

THE SANDPIPER GALLERY

With classical forms and an almost revolutionary approach to media, Jill Nordfors Clark has become synonymous with Northwest basketry. Her work can be seen alongside drawings and prints by her daughter, Erica Nordfords Applewhite, which ends today at The Sandpiper Gallery in Old Town.

Clark is well established on the national scene as a recognized basket maker. Her work has been shown in major galleries across the country. Applewhite is less well known but has previously shown in the Tacoma area. This is her first show at Sandpiper.
